Nancy has been a contributing judge for TJFS since it was first formed. With an extensive and successful career in both skiing and snowboarding, Nancy is a knowledgable and well rounded judge for the organization. Out of her many accomplishments, placing 6th last year at the FWQ at Crystal Mountain at the age of 54 is her biggest one. Nancy believes that to preserve the sport, junior athletes "don't need to be going overly huge on airs and don't need to get inverted on tricks." The best advice she could give the athletes is to stay healthy, ski smart, get an avalanche education and some first aid/medical training if venturing into the backcountry. |
Mich has been judging/announcing for TJFS competitions for four years now. As a kid, Mich skied on the Mighty Mites and Squaw Valley Ski Team. Since then, he has competed in the U.S. Freeskiing Championships, Big Mountain Telemark Competition, and Rahlves Bonzai Tour. Mich hopes to see "more people opening themselves to the backcountry and taking time to gain experience and training to stay safe while pushing the limits all over the world." The best advice that he could give to TJFS athletes is "keep your cool and have fun...nothing more important than having fun with your friends and family building fundamental relationships". |
Kenzie Morris has been a judge on the TJFS for two seasons now. She has been an athlete on the Freeride Qualifier Tour through the US, Canada, and New Zealand for six years before that. If she would have any advice for the younger athletes is to always remember to enjoy what you are doing and keep your runs within your ability. She loves to see smiles and hugs at the bottom and well skied runs.

Eric, aka Schmitty, has been a crucial judge for both TJFS and IFSA for 12 years now. Between his background in judging and 6 years of competing, Eric is a knowledgable and experienced asset to the organization. Eric's extensive skiing career consists of racing and big mountain skiing, with notable recognitions such as 2 time North American Freeskiing Champion, 2 time Champion of the Kirkwood Freeskiing Championships, and the Sick Bird Award at Kirkwood. A competitor himself, Eric believes that the sport is in a really good place right now for junior athletes. In terms of the direction the sport is headed, Eric explains "I just want to see athletes express themselves and their own skills as opposed to trying to do what they think the judges want." The best advice he could give TJFS athletes is "Ride for yourself. Ski the line that is fun to you. Whether you have a good run or not, enjoy the moment, always have fun and always give lots of hugs and high fives." |
